El Sistema Højvangen
On the 4th of May, I when to the city of Skanderborg (near Aarhus, Denmark), to assist to a lesson given by El Sistema Højvangen to kids aged between 4 and 6 years old.
The first class was with kids aged around 4-5 years old. It was a violin lesson. After tuning 25 violins (!), the kids had a 30-minutes lesson.
Georges after having tuned the violins. Really small violin between 1/8 and 1/4 :-).
The second class was with older kids. They sang, some played the violin, other the drums or the xylophone. The particularity of this lesson is that they could choose their instrument and worked in small groups by instrument. After a 30 minutes rehearsal by group, they were able to play together a Danish music (you can watch the video about the program here).
After this morning at school, I went to the city of Aarhus, to visit the botanical garden. I discovered the “Greta oto“, also known at the glasswing butterfly for its unique transparent wings. Incredible!
The city of Aarhus is also famous for the “old city”, a museum with old Danish houses.
Finally I walked to the harbor, through the lovely streets.
