Originally founded in 1975 by Venezuelan orchestra conductor, pianist, and educator José Antonio Abreu, El Sistema is a publicly financed program that helps kids to get a better future, through music. Today, El Sistema is over 400 music centers and more than 700,000 children worldwide. With at least 4 hours of music per day, this program offers the opportunity, for thousands of kids, to get a better education, not only in music, but also at school.

The originality of El Sistema is that it is mainly focus on rescuing young people from the poor areas who probably would have drawn into crime or drug abuse.

One of the most famous artists who started an international career thanks to El Sistema is Gustavo Dudamel. Today, this young orchestra conductor and violinist is the music director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar (one of the most famous orchestra in South America, originally founded by José Antonio Abreu in Venezuela) and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
